Brief Biography
Dr. Sabty has a Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from UCLA and an MPH in Environmental Health Sciences & Industrial Hygiene from UCLA. She is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist. She has over 18 years of experience in developing curricula & teaching courses in EOH. Previously, she worked at the UCLA Labor Occupational Safety & Health program on policy initiatives including Refinery Safety & Indoor Heat Illness. Her research experiences are in workplace, laboratory & community settings with focus on environmental justice & community-based participatory approaches to addressing environmental hazards in underserved & underrepresented communities. Her current research areas are: mitigating near-roadway air pollution at schools & preventing heat illnesses among day laborers. Her professional contributions include current service on the National Environmental Health Science & Protection Accreditation Council (https://www.nehspac.org/). Her community engagement includes being member of the Community Advisory Group for the largest California residential clean-up of lead in over 10,000 homes contaminated by operations of Exide Technologies; she represents community's interest & facilitates communication between elected officials, advisory group members & two government agencies (CalEPA/California Department of Toxic Substances Control & the South Coast Air Quality Management District) responsible for overseeing the residential clean-up and closure of the Exide plant.
