Dr. Ali Akbar Mahdi, a lecturer in the Sociology Department at CSUN, is an emeritus professor from Ohio Wesleyan University. His expertise lies in social change, development, and social movements, with a particular focus on Middle Eastern societies, especially Iran. In addition to numerous articles and book reviews in sociological journals, Dr. Mahdi has authored and co-authored several influential works, including Sociology of the Iranian Family, Teen Life in the Middle East (editor), Culture and Customs of Iran (co-author), Sociology in Iran (co-author), Resources for Teaching Sociology of Development and Women in Development, and Iranian Culture, Civil Society, and Concern for Democracy. He is frequently interviewed by both English and Persian media outlets for his insights on the sociological dynamics of Middle Eastern countries, particularly Iran.
