Arthur Maturo

My research focuses on Comics Studies (Comics, Graphic Novels, Manga) Disability Studies, Queer Studies, and BIPOC literary studies. I approach the above primarily through a semiotic lens, reading for cultural values that are reflected back at mass consumers. I study popular film, queer film, advertisements, video games, and illustrated literature along with standard "literature" (books, poems, short stories, etc.). As far as manga studies, I particularly focus on manga (and anime!) from the 70s and 80s, as well as disability manga published over the last 10-15 years or so.
