Vasiliki Karras-Lazaris

Prof. Lazaris has been part of CSUNs TESL program since its inception focusing on teacher training and assessment. She has been the Director of Academic Programs of the Intensive English/Student Success/International Programs at CSUN and has worked on program development, teacher training, and assessment with universities in Korea, China, and Japan and Cultural Offices for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman. She was the assessment expert for the Afghan women's group project through the State Dept and conducted a comprehensive study on international student proficiency levels and implemented the graduate TOEFL waiver, part CSUNs admissions process. She is a consultant for Mich Lang Assessment and has run official ETS testing centers at CSUN for TOEFL iBT/TOEIC and Cambridge offering IELTS. She has contributed to and authored various publications. Her most recent in 2020 is entitled “Mapping a Culturally-Responsive Information Literacy Journey for International Students: Interdisciplinary Approach.” In Envisioning the Framework: A Graphic Guide to Information Literacy. She was the 2014 CSUN Presidential Award recipient; 2021-22 TESOL Chair, Affiliate Network Professional Council (ANPC); 2016-18 Eng USA Vice Pres of Outreach, and 2022-23 CATESOL IEP Chair. She loves travelling, having been to Austria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK, Zimbabwe, Zambia.
