She holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction: Cultural Studies in Education with a graduate portfolio in Mexican American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Carla holds a master's degree from the University of Arizona and a bachelor's degree from Gallaudet University. Carla’s research interests center around intersectionality, social justice—particularly in education, critical race studies, Deaf-Chicanx & Latinx critical studies, and multilingual/multicultural education. In Carla’s free time, she values spending time with her family, unearthing the roots of her family tree, and she truly enjoys the outdoors as a way to stay spiritually connected to Mother Earth.
