Brief Biography
Professor of Sociology, Director CSUN Bridge to the Future Scholars Program
Dr. David Boyns has over 20 years of experience in social science research and evaluation. He has background and expertise in evaluation research and community engaged partnerships and research, as well as in quantitative and qualitative research methods in the social sciences. His evaluation research and community engagement activities have been funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institutes of Health, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the California State University Chancellor’s Office. Dr. Boyns has published over twenty-five peer-reviewed articles or book chapters, and has published over two-dozen evaluation research reports. He has conducted and supervised community-based research on the topics of community supported agriculture, domestic violence, lactation education, teacher professional development, and inclusive theatre experiences for youth on the autism spectrum. He is the former Director of the CSUN Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing (2015-2023), a collaborative of campus and community members committed to enhancing the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, organizations and communities. He is the current Director of the CSUN Bridge to the Future Scholars Program, which he started in 2016. Dr. Boyns is the chair of the CSUN Standing Committee for the Protection Subjects, has over 15 years of experience serving on human subjects committees.
