Dr. Deazell Johnson is an adjunct faculty member for Academic First Year Experiences at CSUN and serves a full-time academic advisor role in the Student Services Center/EOP Satellite for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. He has also served in multiple leadership positions on campus since 2003.

A proud Matador himself, Dr. Johnson has earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (2020) at CSUN, completing his dissertation, titled "Untapped, Underrepresented, and Unstoppable: A Qualitative Study of How Peer and Student-Faculty Interactions Shape the Experiences of Black Undergraduate Women in Engineering and Computer Science". Prior to that, he earned his M.A. in Educational Administration in Higher Education (2014) and B.A. in Screenwriting (2008) at CSUN.

Dr. Johnson’s professional interests are academic advising, counseling, and teaching undergraduate, transfer, and graduate students. His main research interests include intersectionality and STEM, including the racialized and gendered experiences of Black/African American women in STEM, BIPOC student retention in higher education, and more. As a servant leader, his passion, intersectionality, pedagogy, and skillset ultimately shape his commitment to serving all students and leading them to their strengths. Lastly, his favorite motto is "Chance favors those in motion. Keep moving, take action and opportunities will follow."
