Brief Biography

HENRYK CYMERMAN,
Completed his Master of Fine Arts at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. He has worked as a Director of Photography for the International Cinematography Guild Local 600 for over 35 years.
His films include, but are not limited to, the following titles: “April Rain,” “Brothers Three an American Gothic,” “Scared,” “Soap Girl,” “Placebo Effect,” “Home Fries” [Second Unit], “To the Limit,” “Dream Boat,” “Star Trek First Contact” [Second Unit], and was honored with many awards in cinematography and directing.
Henryk traveled worldwide to visually record testimonials from over 300 Holocaust survivors for Steven Spielberg’s “Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation.” The powerful stories and memories he captured on screen are his most crucial cinematic work. Documenting the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz reminded him of the power of film and its ability to impact lives.
Henryk’s professional teaching career started after Dr. Annette Insdorf, Director of the Columbia University Graduate School of Film, invited him to teach cinematography. This initial teaching experience prompted his future endeavors in university settings. The creativity and independence he likes to foster in his students fuel his love of teaching.
