C Jacob Hale
Professor
Faculty - Philosophy
Brief Biography
I've been in CSUN's Department of Philosophy since 1991, after earning a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988, teaching for a couple of years at Texas A&M, and spending another year in Chapel Hill as a visiting assistant professor.
Teaching CSUN students is one of the great joys of my life! I was very extremely skeptical about teaching online, but about a month into the Fall 2020 semester, things "just clicked". I am getting better student work than I ever got teaching in person; I am finding ways to connect with students online (and continue to look for more opportunities to improve in this regard); and, I appreciate the increased access that the online environment enables for so many of us (in so many ways), including myself.
Away from the university, I enjoy reading, photography, exploring the Southwest (especially New Mexico), hiking, history, the visual arts, and weightlifting. I love Tarheels basketball, and I watch way too much political commentary on TV.
