Dr. Jamie Booth is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at California State University Northridge. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara in 2019, and his M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 2013. He is the Principal Investigator of the Bioinspired Mechanics Lab. His research seeks to examine the extraordinary mechanical properties of natural systems, uncovering key principles which facilitate the design of novel, multifunctional, engineering materials. He is particularly interested in the modeling of fracture in complex systems for enhancement of toughness and adhesion. Dr. Booth has been the recipient of Invited Visiting Researcher appointments at the Leibniz Institute for New Materials, Saarbrucken Germany, and Imperial College London, UK. He has served as chair of the Gordon Research Seminar on Science of Adhesion, and as an organizing member of the Humboldt Foundation sponsored Virtual Cluster on the Mechanics and Physics of Adhesion and Grip. Dr. Booth is also interested in the exploration of novel teaching strategies which focus on authenticity to engineering practice, creation of a communal classroom environment, and which bring research-related projects into the curriculum.
