Dr. Jamie Booth received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2019, and his MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 2013. As PI of the Bioinspired Mechanics Lab, his research seeks to explore the design of tough multifunctional materials inspired by nature. His expertise is in the modeling and experimental investigation of adhesion and fracture. Dr. Booth is currently PI of an NSF RUI awarded project on ‘The Origins of Statistical Variation of Strength in Micropatterned Adhesive Contacts’. As Co-PI on an award from the U.S. D.O.D., Dr. Booth jointly established the CSUN Multi-Scale Mechanical Characterization Laboratory. He was the recipient of an Invited Visiting Researcher appointment at the Leibniz Institute of New Materials, Saarbrücken Germany in 2018. In the classroom, Dr. Booth is interested in the exploration of novel teaching strategies which focus on authenticity to engineering practice, creation of a communal environment, and which bring research-related projects into the curriculum. He received the Certificate in College and University Teaching from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2019. In service, Dr. Booth has emphasized graduate student success as M.S. Program Graduate Coordinator since Spring 2024, as a member of the Graduate Studies Committee of the Faculty Senate from 2022-2024, and as a liaison for the CSUNposium Student Research Showcase since Fall 2023.
