Joel Krantz is originally from the Philadelphia area, now living in Los Angeles. He is currently Associate Chair of the Dept. of CTVA and a full-time tenured Professor of Film Production with an expertise in Post Production Sound and Music at California State University, Northridge, joining the Department of Cinema and Television Arts in the Fall of 2011. He is an Avid Master Instructor for Avid Technology, Inc. and a Certified Pro Tools Expert for Post Production, Music and Dolby Atmos mixing. In addition to teaching at CSUN, he has guest lectured at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and has also taught Avid Pro Tools sound curriculum locally.

With over 25 years of industry experience, Joel has written and published more than 25 different Pro Tools training course books used at Avid Learning Partner schools worldwide. He has also recently authored a Dolby Vision color grading workflows book for Dolby Laboratories, Inc.

His recent sound credits include the audiobook, The Story Solution: 23 Actions All Great Heroes Must Take, the feature length documentary film, Pastriology, the short film, You Try Living Here, and a series of Emmy-nominated television Public Service Announcements for the FBI. Joel has also edited and mixed television promos for FOX Television and DIRECTV and is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE), and the University Film & Video Association (UFVA).
