Before earning his M.F.A. from UCLA, Jon Stahl was a director for several years at WBNG-TV, a CBS affiliate in New York. A 60-minute special about baseball that he wrote and directed won NAB and NY State Broadcasters' Association awards. Jon left WBNG to freelance in NYC on commercials, features and TV shows such as Saturday Night Live. He worked frequently as a prop man, despite his profusion of thumbs. Finally realizing that this flaw would impede a sustained career in the property arts, he embraced screenwriting. To support his new path, Jon taught TV production at Brooklyn College and F.I.T. Before long, he moved to L.A. and affiliated himself with UCLA Extension, where he taught film production. After receiving his M.F.A., Jon's screenwriting career blossomed. Several of his film and TV projects have been optioned by producers such as David Foster, Cari-Esta Albert, Meg Ryan's Prufrock Pictures, Rhino Films, and Altschuler Krinsky Works. A feature script won Best in Show at the BEA Media Arts Festival. Jon joined CSUN in 1998. He has served as CTVA Screenwriting Option Head, CTVA Department Chair, and Chair of the CSUN Council of Chairs. He has received several teaching honors, has moderated and presented at numerous conferences, and published in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the Broadcast Education Association, the TV Academy, the University Film and Video Association, and is president of the local chapter of the Rufus T. Firefly Appreciation Society.
