CSUN is where I earned my MA in English with an emphasis in rhetoric and composition and completed my graduate thesis: The Rhetoric of Healthy Food. My BA is in liberal studies with a minor in creative writing.

I began teaching at CSUN as a graduate student in 2005, and was hired as faculty in 2007. I teach composition as well as professional and technical writing. Serving as the internship coordinator for the English department for five years helped me to understand the profound impact these skills will have on students while transitioning from college to career.

As an educator, I work hard to learn about implicit bias and employ teaching strategies that make the learning experience in my classes more equitable, including the effective use of technology. This is an ongoing effort because there is always more work to do. As evidence of my commitment to this goal, here are some of my recent accomplishments:

CSU AI Tools for Teaching & Learning 2024
ACUE Credential in Effective College Instruction 2022
CSUN Institute for Transformative Teaching and Learning 2021
Reviewing Courses Using the QLT Instrument Certification 2020

After working my way through school in a variety of jobs outside of education, I hope to help students practice communicating effectively in my classroom so they feel more confident when employing those skills toward their goals outside of class.
