.Linda Alvarez received her Ph.D. in Political Science and an M.A. in International Relations from Claremont Graduate University, as well as an M.A. in Latin American Studies from California State University, Los Angeles. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Northridge. Dr. Alvarez's scholarly work is situated within the field of Critical Migration Studies, where she investigates the intersections of migration, violence, and systemic exclusion. Her research critically analyzes how global systems—including state mechanisms, international regimes, and economic structures—function not only to uphold a global order that marginalizes and penalizes the migration of vulnerable populations but also to perpetuate it. Her work aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the barriers and inequities faced by displaced and marginalized communities, thereby advancing discussions on global migration dynamics and policy reform. Dr. Alvarez's research extends beyond human migration dynamics to examine how global systems also impact non-human animals, the natural environment, and human food systems. Her work integrates these diverse elements to offer a comprehensive analysis of how systemic forces shape not only human experiences but also broader ecological and agricultural contexts.
