Marcela Alvarez joined the Child and Adolescent Development Department as a part-time lecturer in August 2022. She was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley to Mexican immigrant parents. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior her doctoral studies, she was primary bilingual educator, teaching in both California and Texas. In addition to teaching Marcela has participated in policy and advocacy fellowships, advocating on behalf of teachers and students.
She earned her Masters in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Multicultural and Multilingual Education, from California State University, Northridge in May 2022. She earned her Bachelors is Spanish and Chicana/o Studies with a Minor in Education, from University of California, Davis in March 2016. Marcela is a 2022-20223 CSU Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program Fellow.
