Monicka Guevara has been an instructor at CSUN for 15 years. She specializes in culturally responsive teaching, fostering student belonging, and promoting a growth mindset. Monicka is dedicated to student-centered learning and applying evidence-based teaching strategies. She brings 20 years of experience in social work and public health project development, administration, and evaluation at the county and state levels. She has facilitated Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) for the past eight years at the Mike Curb College of Communications and Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication (MCCAMC). Participants in these communities work on techniques that contribute to closing graduation gaps. Monicka has completed her third year of CSUN's ELPS Doctoral program and is researching the impact of belonging and university mattering on first-generation college student persistence. Additionally, Monicka has visited 25 countries, is bilingual/bicultural, and is certified in conference interpreting (English/Spanish).
