I am Natalie Chicas, a part-time lecturer for the Department of Child and Adolescent Development. I am also a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) at Shriners Children's Southern California. As a CCLS, I help infants, children, youth, and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss, and bereavement. CCLS provides evidence-based, developmentally, and psychologically appropriate interventions, including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain.

I have taught at Cal State Los Angeles for the past five years. Courses: Development across the life span (infancy-adolescence) and Infant Development. Currently, at CSUN, I am teaching Helping Children Cope with Medical Environments.

My interest includes research, swimming, photography, and traveling.
