Dr. Nayan G. Ramirez (he/him/él) is an Associate Professor of Criminology and Justice Studies at California State University, Northridge. His interests include gender & sexualities, peer & social networks, social inequality & the life course, and youth & justice.
Dr. Ramirez's research focuses on the dynamics of adolescent relationships and their impact on various life outcomes, the influence of peer networks on behavior, and systemic issues within educational and criminal justice systems. His research also explores topics such as dating and sexuality in youth, employment risks, exclusionary school discipline, and the transition to adulthood. Additionally, his work addresses broader systemic issues and aims to improve educational approaches. Dr. Ramirez teaches undergraduate-level classes in juvenile justice, introductory statistics, criminological theory, peer mentoring, and applied methods.
In addition, Dr. Ramirez is involved in various efforts to further educational equity. He serves as the New Faculty Foundations Fellow for Faculty Development, helping to orient new faculty to the university through equity-minded professional development in the New Faculty Academy. He also serves as Chair of the Faculty Senate’s Educational Equity Committee for the 2024/25 academic year.
