Nicholas Steffen is Shift Superintendent of Wastewater Treatment for the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science & Resource Management his career in public works began with a position as a Laboratory Technician at Ventura County’s Water Reclamation Facility. From there, Nick took a position as an Operator-in-Training for the City of Simi Valley and over the course of the next five years became a Grade V Wastewater Operator, received a Master’s in Civil Engineering degree and obtained a California State Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT). In addition, Nick became heavily involved with the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Tri-Counties section in 2012 and currently holds the title of Board of Directors President. CWEA has recognized Nick with numerous awards including being named one of 2016’s Emerging Leaders in the wastewater industry. In 2016, Nick joined the City of Los Angles Bureau of Sanitation as Shift Superintendent of Wastewater Treatment which includes overseeing the operation of the wastewater pumping plants, air treatment facilities, and storm water pumping facilities within the Wastewater Collection System Division.
