Brief Biography
Dr. Peter L. Bishay is a Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and the Director of the “Computational Mechanics and Smart Structures” (CMSS) Laboratory. He received his PhD degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 2014. He published over 30 research papers at reputable journals and conference proceedings covering different topics in computational mechanics, composite and smart structures, aerospace structures, prosthesis design, and engineering education. Some of his research projects were supported by DOD and NSF. Dr. Bishay founded two research-based senior design projects at CSUN, namely “Smart Morphing Wing” and “Smart Prosthetics.” He taught various undergraduate and graduate courses as an instructor in four different Universities in New Jersey, Washington and California. He has been serving as a technical reviewer for over twenty journals in the last ten years. He is also one of three founders of the Multi-Scale Mechanical Characterization Lab (MMCL) at CSUN, supported by the US Department of Defense (DOD). Dr. Bishay is the recipient of the "Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award" (2017), the "Future Technology Leader Award" (2018) and the "Distinguished Engineering Educator Achievement Award" (2022) from The Engineer's Council. He also received the “Outstanding New Researcher Award” and the “Highly Influential and Sustained Innovation Award” from CSUN.
