Brief Biography
I teach a wide range of graduate and undergraduate courses in the Middle East and World history, mostly related to pre-modern periods. My research interests are mainly in eleventh century Iran and Egypt, particularly the Fatimid and Buyid states, and on court politics, Isma`ili and Shi`i thought, and environmental history. I have recently developed an interest in disaster studies, and I am presently working on a book entitled Famine and Civil War in Fatimid Egypt: ‘The Great Crisis’ and its Impact that looks at the political, environmental, socio-economic, and intellectual impacts of a period of instability in Fatimid Egypt between 1058 and 1074CE.
