Brief Biography
In 2019, Rob Co-wrote and Co-Produced The Last Black Man in San Francisco, a Plan B & A24 co-production. The film premiered at Sundance where it won two Grand Jury Prizes, a spot on President Barack Obama’s Favorite Films of 2019 list and several award season nominations, including Best Screenplay at The Gotham Awards. That Summer, Rob was a fellow at the Academy supported Cine Qua Non Writers Lab with an original feature screenplay. He is also a Producer on Joe Talbot’s sophomore feature, The Governesses, an Element Pictures production. Rob’s short films have played at Telluride Film Festival, San Francisco IFF and SXSW. While completing his MFA at Columbia University, the three short films Rob directed garnered Best Short awards at Oscar qualifying festivals, inclusion on the PBS syndicated Film School Shorts and back-to-back Faculty Honors. Rob writes and directs ads with production companies Where the Buffalo Roam and Sprinkle Labs. He also serves the San Quentin community as a Co-Creator and Co-Instructor of a short film production program with the support of SFFilm and The Pollen Initiative. In it, incarcerated students are guided through a year-long process of writing, directing and editing short films for the festival circuit. Rob also has just begun serving on the creative advisory board to the next crop of filmmakers in SFFilm’s FilmHouse.
