Brief Biography
"PIC" is an award winning full time lecturer who earned her BA and MA at CSUN. Randi has taught more than a dozen courses in Communication Studies & Gender/Women's Studies since 2002. She also works for the Tseng Institute, facilitating a highly popular 'internship course' for working adults in the Public Sector Management Program. Her area of interest is in critical/cultural studies, with an emphasis in gender. In 2019 she received the Excellence in Service to Students Award for equitizing the Coms. Department internship program; increasing the number of minoritized students & sourcing more minority/women owned organizations.
Picarelli is involved in extensive service to the university; facilitating a Teaching Excellence program, where she trains and mentors faculty on syllabi design, lesson planning, & course design. She serves as the faculty advisor for IGNITE: a club devoted to women students invested in politics & political careers. A regular conference presenter and grant recipient, she also co-authored a text on Internships in 2019.
A strong union advocate, she is politically involved in many campus actions and causes; working successfully to overturn former Chancellor White's EO 1110, which would have eliminated Ethnic/Gender Studies requirements. She staged campus walk outs & teach ins in 2008 - as a member of COST - an activist Coalition Of Students and Teachers. Picarelli currently is advocating for the safety of undocumented students in the CSU.
