In this project CSUN intends to partner with the National Urban Alliance (NUA) to encourage and challenge the talents of underperforming student populations with an engaging, tailored education. The intention is to infuse the NUA?s Pedagogy of Confidence model into the first- and second-year experiences of incoming students athletes. The Pedagogy of Confidence is a mentoring model in which all students are provided with the tools and support needed to engender confidence, fearless expectation, and high intellectual performance?all geared to real-world applications in academic success, career choices, and life-long learning. To support these efforts, we will create a series of professional development workshops to train advising, mentoring, and tutoring staff and select faculty in Pedagogy of Confidence principles. We will also create a collaborative e-space for staff and faculty to collaborate with one another and with NUA staff. In addition to these professional development initiatives we will hold one-on-one sessions with at-risk students to ensure that they feel empowered to succeed at CSUN.
