Our university campus is an ideal, convenient location where high-risk students can feel safe accessing these critical resources from fellow students and/or campus staff. The CSU Chancellor?s Office is dedicated to these efforts and supportive of expansion to include CalFresh Outreach on all 23 campuses as exemplified by their state share support and the recently published CSU system wide report highlighting housing and food insecurity of CSU students. Together, the CSU system and the CalFresh Outreach program can increase California?s CalFresh participation rate by assisting potentially eligible CSU students to apply for CalFresh and maintain benefits as long as they are eligible. Current and future students who receive CalFresh are not only getting the food they need, but they also have more time and resources to obtain a degree for more secure future employment and lifelong success.
