NASA CORAL Project My major responsibility for the NASA CORAL Project is to serve as the lead for the coral reef biogeochemistry measurements at each of the cal/val locations. This includes the following: ? design of the Lagrangian and gradient flux approaches to measure coral reef calcification, primary production, and respiration, including the design of instrument moorings and stands for field deployment ? travel to each of the cal/val sites to deploy instruments and collect data for the biogeochemical measurements ? analysis of data from each of the sites and work with other science team members to relate the biogeochemistry to benthic community structure and remote sensing products ? supervision of the postdoctoral scholar who will work exclusively on this project ? advising and supervision of the graduate student who will work on this project ? preparation of manuscripts for publication based on the field measurements and work with other science team members to prepare manuscripts on the coupling of reef biogeochemistry with benthic community structure ? manage the budget of the subaward to CSUN and assume all financial responsibility for the subaward A second major responsibility will be to work with the Lead PI and other science team members on the large-scale relationships between coral reef structure/function with environmental drivers over a Pacific Ocean-wide scale.
