The Family Focus Resource Center, a sponsored program of CSUN, will provide parent to parent support, education and training for parents of children with individualized education programs (IEPs) in northern Los Angeles County. Program Overview As one of fourteen Family Empowerment Centers in the state of California, we are funded by the California Department of Education provide information to parents of children who have or who may be eligible for IEPs at school. Goals include increased knowledge of the special education process, increasing parent involvement and parent-school collaboration, and reducing due process claims. Staffing Overview Principal Investigator Program Manager Coordinators (3) ? schedule trainings and workshops. Collaborate with other professionals (teachers, agencies, Regional Center staff). Provide resources & referrals. Family Support Providers (4-6) ? take phone calls and make 1:1 appointments with families for consulting on their IEPs, providing resources and referrals. Population to be Served Target population are residents of Los Angeles County in the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Antelope Valleys. Children served are ages 3-22. Many of the families we serve are low-income, and approximately 50 percent are Hispanic. Bilingual staff ensure we serve families in both English and Spanish.
