As part of the Promise Neighborhood grant, Youth Policy Institute (YPI) is enlisting the assistance of an evaluation firm to develop and administer surveys to its Promise Neighborhood residents in the communities of Pacoima and East Hollywood. A survey instrument will be developed using the following indicators: Children?s accessibility to medical care, ages 0-5 The household?s ability to access childcare for ages 0-5 Are parents reading to their children, ages 0-5 on a regular basis? Are parents encouraging their children from kindergarten through 8th grade to read outside of school? Are parents encouraging high school age children to think about post-secondary plans and engaging them about career and college? Enumerators will go in pairs with at least one Spanish speaker in each pair. Enumerators will visit each household on their list in accordance with our sample, knock on the door and attempt to assist the resident in completing a survey. All survey instruments will go through pilot testing and assessed for reliability and validity. Once the data is collected and coded, it will be cleaned and checked for outliers and missing data. We will analyze the data using SPSS statistical software and the final report and executive summary will provide information on the demographics, frequencies, mean and medians. We will also conduct group mean analysis (ANOVA) to compare the experiences of various groups and report information in bar/pie charts for ease of interpretation. The team will present results to stakeholders.
