We envision the CSUN/ NLACRC Family Focus Resource Center Van Nuys site to be a welcoming place for parents and caregivers to obtain information, support and resources related to their family member with a developmental disability. Imagine a Resource Center where a parent or caregiver could visit in order to receive emotional support and hope for their newly diagnosed child. Service providers can also visit in order to share information about their services, and pick up helpful resources to help them serve their consumers. This joint venture will allow both NLACRC and CSUN's strong reputation and goodwill to gain more exposure in a larger context and it will provide families and consumers an opportunity for greater access to services. Delivering family-friendly and accurate information about disabilities are two key components of stellar community partnerships. NLACRC and CSUN have a long history elating to the late 1990s. The relationship has been marked by strong collaboration, a willingness to solve challenges, and a commitment to clear communication. In keeping with this tradition, the FFRC staff, in consultation with Dean Michael Spagna, has carefully considered and detailed a list of benefits and challenges. Addressing concerns of both parties will ensure that we develop a strong memorandum of understanding (MOU) that solidify duties and responsibilities of the FFRC and NLACRC.
