Brief Biography
Professor Wainess retired from a full-time professional career in manufacturing in 2019, after 40 years working in a variety of industries. These included public guidance and hospitality; process filtration; electronics; microelectronics; and medical; but primarily military and aerospace hardware. His career included positions in manufacturing engineering, operations management, and manufacturing engineering management.
Professor Wainess’ education includes an Associates of Arts degree; a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Production and Operations Management option; and a Master of Science in Engineering, Engineering Management option, with Distinction. Professional certifications included Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, certified BasicMOST Applicator, and Certified Manufacturing Technologist.
Professor Wainess has taught a variety of courses in the Undergraduate and Graduate programs in Engineering Management at CSUN continuously since 2004. The courses included Operations Management; Lean Manufacturing; Engineering Financial and Cost Analysis; Engineering Economy; Cost Estimating; Facility Planning; and Engineering Statistical Applications. In addition, he has also taught courses in Statistical Process Control through UCLA Extension, and Operations Management through the Tseng College of Graduate Education.
