Brief Biography

BACKGROUND
Silvia Carpitella received a PhD in Mathematics from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) and a PhD in Technological Innovation Engineering from the University of Palermo (Italy) along with the title of Doctor Europaeus. Silvia has gained a teaching & research background within universities and companies of such countries as United States, Czech Republic, Brazil, Spain, England, and Germany, besides Italy.

RESEARCH AND TEACHING
Silvia’s main research interests integrate engineering and math, with a particular focus on decision support systems, treatment of uncertainty affecting human evaluations, mathematical modelling and optimisation of safety and supply chain management in industrial contexts. Silvia achieved the National Scientific qualifications as an associate in the Italian higher education system for the disciplinary field of Industrial Mechanical Systems Engineering and as an assistant in the Spanish higher education system for the disciplinary field of Technical Education. She has been co-supervising doctoral theses and lecturing international scientific internships.

AWARDS
• Otto Wichterle award, granted to selected young scientists by the Czech Academy of Sciences (2022);
• Prize to the doctoral thesis in the area of Industrial Plant, granted by the Luigi De Januario Foundation (2020);
• Extraordinary prize to the doctoral thesis in the area of Science, granted by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (2020).
