I have been working in elementary education since 1995. Upon receiving a Master of Education and a Teaching Credential at UCLA, I taught for 2 years in Redondo Beach Unified, where I received extensive training in early literacy techniques. In 1997 I moved to Santa Monica Malibu Unified and have been there ever since. I have been working at CSUN since 2016 and have been with the UCLA Math Project since 2018. It is my pleasure and privilege to work with teacher candidates, share ideas and consider philosophies that will create socially just classrooms filled with students who are empowered to lift their voices and effect positive change in our world. Teaching is multidimensional and complex work, ever valued by its impact on the generations of the future. We must bring to the forefront issues of oppression in education and lean into structures that perpetuate inequities. Silence is complicity. My hope is that my teacher education candidates will join in the movement to lift their voices to effect change and make a more just world for all students in our classrooms, not just those with privilege.
