One thing that inspires me to do my research is...

one thing? Ugh! Language is everywhere all the time, as a linguist I enjoy what I do 24/7.

How has your personal background influenced your work at CSUN?

I grew up in a rural environment without many academic models. However, I knew that education could open doors to get out, see, learn, discover. As a professor, I encourage my students to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that they have at CSUN and to look for more. I encourage them to get out of their comfort zone physically or figuratively or both. Explore new horizons, new possibilities!

“When I am grading, I make sure I... stay fresh! I drink lots of water and stretch from time to time to stay awake.”

What is your educational history?

University of Salamanca, Spain
University of Southern California
University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Why do you like to work here?

The students are a constant source of inspiration. Many are first-generation college students. All have worked hard to get here. Also, I have the BEST colleagues one can ever hope for.
