Vickie Jensen
Professor
Brief Biography
I currently serve as the Chair of the Department of Criminology and Justice Studies--a position I have had since 2016 when we began as a department. Since then, I have become involved in other University service including the Chair of the Council of Chairs, University Planning and Budget Group, Commencement Committee, and the Calendar Committee. I serve on the advisory boards for American Indian Studies and Disability Studies and have been a member of a variety of University and College committees.
My academic interests are varied. I am a sociologist by training, and a criminologist by choice. My academic training also includes training in counseling and in English composition and rhetoric. Currently, I spend my time working on ways to improve the experience of first time CJS students, including curricular design and program strategies. I also work on finding ways to improve the working conditions of department chairs at CSUN. Academic leadership and student success are new and distinct areas that build on my academic preparation and which encompass my current role(s).
Academically, my research and work has focused on the understanding, risk assessment, and practical tools of violence, broadly defined. My publication has focused in the areas of homicide, sibling abuse, domestic violence, corrections, and gender and crime. Current projects are focused on the teaching of justice, including a focus on writing.
