Brief Biography
Dr. Yu is a full professor with a specialized focus on the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of speech and language. As a bilingual medical speech-language pathologist, she brings years of clinical experience from both the U.S. and abroad, treating patients with neurogenetic communication disorders and dysphagia. Dr. Yu completed two postdoctoral fellowships at Wayne State University and the SickKids Research Institute, affiliated with the University of Toronto, where she conducted neuroimaging research using magnetoencephalography (MEG) and functional MRI to investigate childhood apraxia of speech. Her research expertise also includes behavioral studies in Acoustics of Speech, Psycholinguistics, Bilingualism, and Second language acquisition. Currently, Dr. Yu directs the Speech Research in Speech-Language Science Lab, where she engages undergraduate and graduate students in both residential and distance-learning programs. Her students have received numerous awards and recognitions from prestigious national and international organizations, reflecting her commitment to advancing research and clinical practice in speech-language pathology.
