Dr. Kennedy has been a public school teacher in general education (music) and special education, working primarily with students who have learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disabilities. Prior to teaching at CSUN, she had been a faculty member in teacher education at public and private universities. She has conducted numerous workshops in public schools and at professional conferences. She has participated in many state level policy and coordination committees, including the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Special Education Taskforce. At CSUN she coordinates the Education Specialist Level II program, and co-coordinates the Cadre for Intern Support Providers.

Professional Interests
Dr. Kennedy's research interests include teacher development, the induction and mentoring of teachers, assessment and instructional strategies for inclusive environments, and service learning. She has been awarded university and state-level grants to study various issues in teacher education. She is currently a board member of the California Council for Teacher Education, and is active in the California Association of Professors of Special Education and the Council for Exceptional Children.
