California Career Pathway Trust (CCPT)


This proposal focuses on the following career pathways in Digital Media and Digital Manufacturing in the Los Angeles-Glendale-Long Beach labor market area: Producers and Directors, Film and Video Editors, Fine Artists, Artists, Set and Exhibit Designers, and Web Developers. In Digital Manufacturing, career pathways include: Computer Controlled Machine Tool Operators, Computer Numerically Controlled Machine Tool Programmers, Industrial Engineering Technicians, and Biomedical Engineers. Entertainment often refers broadly to the Information (NAICS 51) and Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation (NAICS 71) sectors, which together generate billions in annual output. In 2011, for example, Motion Picture and Sound Recording, Telecommunications, and Broadcasting alone were responsible for $71.5 billion in economic activity according to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC). Information sector industries include: Publishing, Motion Picture and Sound Recording, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Data Processing, Hosting and Related Services, and Other Information Services while Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation includes: Museums, Historical Sites & Similar Institutions, Performing Arts, Spectator Sports & Related Industries, and Amusement, Gambling & Recreation. Industry Need ? Entertainment and Digital Media According to the California EDD, economic growth between 2010 and 2020 will create 8,720 L.A. County jobs in digital media; there will be another 11,170 job openings due to separations (e.g., retirements, promotions, death, etc.). By Standard Occupational Classification (SOC), employers expect high growth (>15.5% average over 10 years) and need across all industries for: Producers & Directors (27-2012) at 23%; Film & Video Editors (27-4032) at 18.8%; Set & Exhibit Designers (27-1027) at 16.3%, Fine Artists (27-1013) at 16.1%, and Web Developers (15-1134) at 21%.*
