INTERNET GOVERNANCE, DIGITAL MANIPULATION, AND TEXTUAL DECEPTION

How should regulators regulate internet deception? Are “evil” internet designs more deceptive than plain text? Do internet designs push consumers to agree to their terms and conditions? And would close reading of the terms and conditions remedy such problem? In summary, what is the difference between internet designs (dark patterns) versus contractual drafting (textual
patterns) in nudging consumers online? This project aims to answer these fundamental questions.
