On the effect she hopes to have on students and CSUN...

I hope that I have helped to inspire generations of teachers to challenge and inspire their own students!

On the most exciting trends in her field, and why we should care

I think one of the most exciting trends (and CSUN is leading the way on this) is the use of simulations for teaching practice. This is a true twenty-first century trend that is expanding our new teachers’ opportunities to learn how to teach, receive feedback, and try things again before they start working with real kids. This effects anyone who has children or cares about children – it’s an exciting way to help build a better educational experience for all kids!

"I think leaders have lots of different obligations, but one of the most important is to inspire."

On what drives or compels her to keep pushing the boundaries...

I work in the field of Teacher Education, and this field has not changed much in a long time. What compels me to keep doing the work I do is the effort to bring Teacher Education into the twenty-first century. There are lots of new tools and strategies out there, and we need to be brave enough to change!

On what it means to be at CSUN...

One of the things I really value about CSUN is our diversity. Our classes have students of different ages, ethnicities, sexual preference, countries of origin... it makes our classes so rich! I really love working with such a broad range of perspectives and experiences.
