One thing that inspires me to do my research is...

being able to alert massive amounts of people about a problem, and hoping that a good change can come out of it.

How has your personal background influenced your work at CSUN?

I'm first generation, both parents immigrants, was low income, I know what it's like to be hungry, I know what it's like to take a bus, I have been on academic probation, I have been demoralized, I have been elated, I have had great mentors, I have been empowered, and I have thrived. I am the person I am today because of my experiences. I force myself to remember those experiences, not to forget. Remembering my history shapes and influences my work at CSUN. It keeps me grounded and it fuels me.

“When I am grading, I make sure I... don't let my emotions get the better of me. Sometimes, I'll go back and recheck my grading (and sometimes make changes!).”

What is your educational history?

California State University, Northridge (CSUN)
University of Southern California (USC)

Why do you like to work here?

Our students. In spite of adversity and opposition, they have such a strong desire for personal betterment, so they come here. I LOVE THAT.
