Expanding the Pipeline: Training Future Professionals with Accessibility Mindset

It is highly demanded to offer software developers an opportunity to learn the fact that new technologies that they are creating may create a technical barrier to people with disabilities. Through this project, we plan to empower students with the skills they need to build technical solutions for people with visual impairment, hear impairment or fine motor skill impairment through enhanced curriculum and engaged lear...

Autonomy Research Center for STEM

California State University, Northridge proposes to establish the Autonomy Research Center for STEM (ARCS), a sustainable multidisciplinary university center of excellence that will significantly contribute to NASA?s research in autonomy for civil aviation and space exploration, while transitioning and commercializing research results to address pressing industry and societal needs. In collaboration with researchers at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center and Je...

Climate Change Resiliency Assessment for Cold Storage and Logistics

UCI and Lineage will take a holistic approach that incorporates the critical components of the cold chain: food, people, energy, infrastructure, transportation, and the environment. Studying the complex interdependencies and interactions of these sub-systems allows for correlations and cascade effects to be properly taken into account. These relationships can be exploited to inform preventative and reactionary countermeasures.

California Advanced Defense Ecosystems & National Consortia Effort

CSUN is proposing to develop few inputs for Workforce Development in Smart Manufacturing. As part of this initiative, CSUN will partner with El Camino College, Governor?s Office of Planning and Research to implement the following: 1) Inventory of SM curricula and programs in the U.S., identification of SM skill sets working with industry and academia. 2) Development of certificate program in Smart Manufacturing (maybe 6-8 hours)...

Energy & Appliance Standards for Plug Loads: Assessing Current Needs and Future Opportunities

Analyze and Test Total Energy Consumption of Plug Load Devices to Support Codes and Standards for Non-covered Products. This research will analyze the devices not currently covered by California or US Standards, determine their total energy consumption (standby and active modes) and identify those with the most potential for consideration in future codes and standards. We plan focusing major testing with...

FW-HTF-P: Workers and Technology Together (WATT)

Proposed Project The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, ?Climate Change and Land?, estimated that food waste and its loss as energy ?caused between 8 and 10% of the emissions of the gases responsible for global warming in the period 2010-2016?. Of the total methane emissions released from landfills in a given year, food waste accounts for 20%. The efficient capture and safe processing of food waste into energy will have an apprec...

Consortium for High-volume Additive Manufacturing of Aerospace Heat Exchanger and Talent Development

The Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM1 (ARCS), a NASA-sponsored center for convergence research at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), in partnership with Castheon Inc, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE), UCLA, LA Piece College and Honeywell propose a transformative convergence research approach that will fundament...

The Sustainable Manufacturing Alliances for Research and Training Industry Assessment Center (The SMART IAC)

The Sustainable Manufacturing Alliance for Research and Training Industrial Assessment Center (SMART IAC), hosted by the University of California Irvine and California State University Northridge (satellite) is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Assessment Centers Program. We provide no-cost energy consulting services to manufacturers within 150 miles of UC Irvine and CSUN...

Smart Manufacturing (SM) Workforce Development Model Program

Our goal is to develop and imbed an SM workforce model that leverages existing education and workforce training systems in California. It would be a monumental task to develop a single pathway from a K-12 system through to the University level, have it be adopted, and increase demand for that system all at the same time. A more realistic approach would be to develop a system that could be customized and replicated for any region wan...

Establishing Smart Connected Workers Infrastructure for Enabling Advanced Manufacturing: A Pathway to Implement Smart Manufacturing for Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs)

The Project Goal of this proposed Smart Connected Workers program is to create affordable, scalable, accessible, and portable smart manufacturing systems (A.S.A.P. SM systems) through which advances in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies can be effectively integrated into mobile sensor platforms to augment the intelligen...

Collaborative research: creating an upper division additive manufacturing course and laboratory for enhancing undergraduate research and innovation

The objectives of this project are to develop, assess, revise, and disseminate an upper division course and laboratory, "MSE 496AM/L Additive Manufacturing and Laboratory", and to advance undergraduate research, innovation, and creative inquiry activities as well as faculty expertise at three participating institutions with unique diversity: Californ...

Measuring Sustainment in Prevention Programs and Initiatives

Sustaining prevention efforts directed at drug and alcohol abuse, HIV, and related mental health problems is currently one of the greatest, yet least understood challenges in the field of implementation science. A large gap in knowledge exists regarding what is meant by the term "sustainment" and what factors predict or even measure sustainability of effective prevention programs and support systems, in continually evolving communities,...
